Amazons: Empowering European Girls to Become Environmental Leaders
The Amazons Project, a dynamic initiative proudly co-funded by the European Union under the KA220 – Cooperation partnership in youth program, is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of female environmental leaders across Europe. Our core mission is to address the systemic barriers that often hinder girls and young women from fully engaging and leading in fields of environmental conservation and climate action.
We believe that by empowering these future leaders, we can drive significant positive change for our planet. To achieve this, the Amazons Project employs a comprehensive and impactful strategy focused on equipping participants with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and unwavering confidence needed to thrive in leadership roles.
Our project implements a range of key activities designed to inspire growth:
In-depth Research and Policy Advocacy: We are conducting extensive research to identify and understand the specific structural barriers that prevent women from attaining leadership positions in environmental conservation. The findings will be synthesized into a compelling report and a practical policy brief, aiming to inform and influence policy-makers and stakeholders to create more inclusive pathways for female leadership.
Inspiring Role Models and Knowledge Sharing: We will produce a series of 18 engaging video interviews with established and inspiring female environmental leaders from across Europe. These interviews will serve as powerful sources of motivation, demonstrating diverse career paths, sharing valuable insights, and showcasing the profound impact women are already making in this field.
Accessible Online Education and Skill Development: To build foundational leadership capabilities, we are also developing and soon will launch a comprehensive online course specifically tailored to environmental leadership. This course will cover crucial topics such as project management, communication, advocacy, and strategic thinking, as well as important elements of environmental work jargon and funding opportunities within the sector.
Personalized Mentoring Programs:
Recognizing the importance of individualized support, we will establish mentoring programs that will connect young women with experienced environmental professionals who can provide guidance, advice, and encouragement, fostering their personal and professional growth.
Real-World Leadership Immersion: A crown of the Amazons Project is our international mobility program held in Poland for 20 selected girls from participating countries – Portugal, Spain, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Poland. The mobility as well as the whole project’s agenda will be summarized in the final international conference. This opportunity will provide young female participants with hands-on, real-world leadership experiences, allowing them to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills in practical settings and build a strong network of peers and mentors.
By the end of the Amazons Project, we anticipate having nurtured and empowered a new cohort of female environmental leaders or future leaders, ready to make a significant and lasting contribution to environmental conservation and climate action across Europe and beyond – on all levels – from the local to international stages.
