In January, our Dutch partner, NP2E (A New Path to Equality) hosted two important dissemination activities that advanced the conversation around climate adaptation and inclusive leadership, bringing together national-level decision makers and the next generation of young women leaders.
National Work Conference on Climate Adaptation and Nature
On 27 January, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature of the Netherlands and the Adaptation Atelier organised a work conference on climate adaptation of — and with — nature. The event gathered around 200 policymakers, practitioners, and experts from across the Netherlands to address how climate change is reshaping nature objectives and how to strengthen ecosystem resilience.
Participants worked together on several core questions:
- What does climate change mean for current nature objectives?
- How can we build a future-proof ecosystem?
- Which collective decisions are needed to create resilient nature?
- How can the connections between policy, practice and knowledge be strengthened, and who needs to be involved?
These discussions took place against the backdrop of the Netherlands’ broader strategic efforts to integrate nature-based climate adaptation into national policy — including through its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, which emphasises resilient nature and nature-based solutions as central components of climate adaptation policy.

The Amazons Project was invited to contribute to one of the sessions with our Policy Brief, placing the role of women’s leadership within the climate adaptation agenda. This was an opportunity to ensure that gender-responsive perspectives were present in conversations focused on resilience and policy alignment. Participants engaged with the brief’s recommendations, and we look forward to following how these inputs will be incorporated into ongoing policy development and collaborative action!

National Online Meeting with Young Dutch Women
Earlier in the month, on 16 January, a national online meeting brought together young women from across the Netherlands. The session was organised to connect the rising generation of Amazons Project participants and provide a space for them to share experiences, ideas and plans for action.
The meeting highlighted the breadth of engagement among young Dutch women who are active in climate and nature work — whether in academia, community engagement, advocacy, or professional practice. It underscored how young women in the Netherlands are shaping their own roles in environmental leadership, complementing the policy-level discussions of the January conference.

Two Sides of the Same Conversation
Together, these two events demonstrated how the Amazons Project is supporting dialogue on climate adaptation across very different spaces: from structured policy fora to youth-led exchange. In the Netherlands, these strands came together to reinforce a key message: adapting to climate change and strengthening nature requires both informed decision making at the highest levels and inclusive participation from emerging leaders across generations.
As discussions develop further in the months ahead, we are eager to see how insights from both policymakers and young women will influence future climate strategies and actions in the Netherlands.
